Job title:Technical Accounting Manager
Rate of pay: Day rate open to negotiation

Job Description:

We are looking for a qualified or qualified by experience accountant ideally with good knowledge of IFRS and/or the regulatory reporting environment within which SMBC operates.
Public sector technical knowledge on various areas such as collection fund, capital accounting and PFI projects would be useful.
The purpose of the role is to provide support in technical accounting issues to the Corporate Finance Manager in order to support the delivery of a consistent response to all complex accounting judgements and ensure timely and accurate submission of statutory submissions and assist with closedown tasks as well as working with external and internal audit.
The individual will be in charge of:
o Accurate and timely preparation of substantial and complex deliverables (i.e. accounting judgements or calculations) (e.g. Lease accounting, business case evaluation (financial review))
o Supporting stakeholders in an advisory capacity leveraging complex technical expertise or experience as required
o Influencing and managing relationships with stakeholders (teams, functional, external) to enable the successful delivery of activities and projects.
o Proactively maintaining role as subject matter expert within areas of responsibility, including keeping up to date with internal and external development in relevant business/regulatory areas (e.g. CIPFA code changes affecting specific areas - example would be discussions on infrastructure assets)
o Developing a significant working knowledge of relevant finance and business relevant end to end processes (e.g. collection fund accounting process mapping, end to end communication from business areas to central finance function - Revs and Bens / systems accountant/ chief accountant)
o Identifying and driving connections between the finance function and other areas of the organisation by working in consistent ways and creating a collaborative culture with an aligned purpose and outcomes Delivering Change & Continuous Improvement (most important in conjunction with the above)
Qualifications/Skills/Experience :
o CCAB qualification - CIPFA preferable but any other is acceptable (QBE acceptable)
o Demonstrates CPD in technical projects delivered
o Detailed working knowledge and experience of working in a public sector finance team would be useful but not essential. (Interaction with the wider business (non silo approach to work))
o External Financial Reporting (ideally closure of accounts or significant closure support)
o Experience of ERP or similar financials software (e.g. Oracle R12/ Fusion/ Unit4 Agresso)
