Description

Birmingham City Council and Lewisham Council Public Health Divisions share a joint aspiration to address and improve ethnic inequalities, through an increased understanding, appreciation, and engagement with BAME groups. This has resulted in a collaboration between the two local authorities to share knowledge and resources through a review process. The review will begin with the Black African and Black Caribbean communities, this will enable a more detailed and culturally sensitive approach to the review.

We are looking to commission an evidence summary (literature review). This will encompass all research and relevant article published in English both currently and retrospectively to explore the theme of Early years, Pregnancy, and Parenthood in the Black African and Black Caribbean communities.

The evidence-based summary will explore areas of interest relating to the theme:

Starting well - Early years & Pregnancy
o Infant mortality
o Barriers to maternity services
o Obesity
Health-related Practices/Lifestyle
o Culturally informed beliefs and attitudes towards health
o Smoking, Physical Activity, Nutrition & Diet, Drugs & Alcohol
o NHS inequalities access
o Vaccinations and health checks
Culture
o British culture of African and Caribbean communities
o Advocacy - minorities within minorities e.g. LGBT+, British Africans, and British Caribbean's affecting parenthood
o Population characteristics e.g. education, housing, employment, and family setting.

This contract will be for a period of weeks commencing 28th September 2020 until 26th October 2020.
