Description

Public Health England (PHE) is inviting expressions of interest from suppliers who want to be included in a tender for the conversion of an existing Access database into an SQL database with extended features and additional facilities.

Potential suppliers will have experience of writing MS Access and SQL databases and the conversion of Access data to SQL.

PHE expects a considerable response to this notice and may restrict the progression to next please to the first thirty (30) responses.

The suppliers that progress to the tender phase will receive an invitation via the BravoSolutions tendering portal and further information will be provided as part of the tender documentation.

The current MS Access database acts as a repository for data received on Excel spreadsheets and have some inbuilt reports for routine analyses undertaken by the group. The data is currently received in monthly batches from 12 different sources. The spreadsheets are adapted and data cleaned before upload to the database. Further QA of the uploaded data is then undertaken within the database before a series of routine and bespoke reports are run on the data which is exported to Excel for formatting for presentation in PHE and other national publications.
1. Replace and upgrade an ageing Access database to a reliable platform
2. New database to include updated and new taxonomies for coding data
3. Allow validation of data contained within the excel files for upload against a set of rules by the department
4. Streamline existing reports and add new reports (queries) with addition of graphic representations of results
5. Allow multiple levels of users and allow the department to assign user privileges
6. Send automatic notification of concurrent use to users'
7. Allow users to create a secure user ID that allows internal users to securely access (browser based) system to view data and reports and provide an audit trail.
8. Allow the department to interrogate data held within the system on an ad hoc basis
9. Import and store legacy data from existing MS Access system

The current database is in need of expansion with an increase in fields and options available from dropdown menus as well as the increase in documents held within the database.
