Description
Strategic traffic signal controlled junctions within the Grimsby-Cleethorpes conurbation are co-ordinated by the Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system. The UTC communicates between the remote sites and a central computer by private telephone lines. These are analogue lines provided by British Telecom (BT). BT has indicated that it will no longer support analogue lines beyond 2015. There is therefore a need to migrate to a supported form of communication if the benefits of co-ordinating closely located traffic signals is to continue. To this end a MESH system is being procured which will interface with an improved central computer system; PC-SCOOT.
