Description

Cambridge City Council manage Nine Wells local nature reserve (LNR) situated across the district boundary In South Cambridgeshire District Council. The site has been designated as an LNR and is managed for both wildlife and quiet recreation. The site is leased to the City Council from the University of Cambridge. There is no public vehicle access only statutory and permissive footpaths across neighbouring farmland. The University and Council have a right of vehicle access for management. The site is at the base of a chalk slope where the spring fed Hobson's Conduit emerges in a series of well heads. The resulting springs are crossed by pedestrian footbridges at several points by the sites circular walk. The Council are seeking replacement of 4 existing wooden footbridge and handrails, including removal of existing bridges and making good of adjacent footpath levels.
