Description
Following on from a successful bid to the Dft for funding from the 2016/17 Sustainable Travel Transition Year grant we have been awarded the funding in order to carry out an innovative pilot scheme. The Council would therefore like Contractors to submit bids for a unique Connectivity Shuttle pilot within St Albans.
The Pilot's main objective is to improve connectivity links between the Abbey Line Station and the St Albans City Station, travelling up through St Peters Street the shuttle will not only be a dedicated service between these two vital destinations but will also serve city centre shoppers, tourists and commuters.
As you will be able to see from the vehicle specification (Schedule 1) the vehicle that will be required for this service will be either a Euro 5 standard or a Euro 6 standard. The reason being that the Peahen Junction in St Albans is still one of the top 10 Air Quality Management Area zones within Hertfordshire. The key factor in providing a Euro 5 standard or a Euro 6 standard for the pilot is that we use the funding to encourage a modal shift within St Albans and contribute to improving the air quality.
Another key element of this pilot is to provide cyclists with an opportunity to use the shuttle by placing a bike rack internally or externally on the vehicle. This will in turn attract customers who will be using the shuttle in their leisure time.
Not only will this Contract offer the attraction of working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council and the Department for Transport but due to the awarding of the funding from the DfT we will also be offering the expertise, planning and funding for the marketing of the bus service, firstly with a vast launch campaign incorporating both digital and traditional mediums but also with the ongoing marketing throughout duration of the pilot in order for it to achieve its maximum bus patronage potential.
