Description
Expressions of interest are being sought from organisations/partnerships with a proven record in delivering work placement experiences for young people within the North region, to design, produce and deliver high quality and focused support prior to, and during and after, the work experience interventions designed to provide insights into the work of the NHS, and the wide range of careers available.
The aim of internships is to give young people access to paid work experience in the NHS, including students from disadvantaged backgrounds. HEE North wants to expand the paid internships it supports across the geography of the North region during 2018 and in doing so support the delivery of the following objectives:
• Raise the profile of the wide spectrum of roles within the NHS, including apprenticeship options
• Proactively encourage new organisations and new NHS Mentors to become involved in supporting students, especially students studying Health and Social Care
• Support the NHS Mentors to provide ongoing mentoring to the students during the academic year
• Support students from lower income families, to gain the confidence, skills and networks to achieve their potential in the future
• Enable students to learn from employers about work and the skills that are valued in the work place and to have first-hand experience of the workplace
• Raise awareness of opportunities for students to explore the possibility of undertaking volunteering work in the NHS after their internship ends
• Develop innovative options for the internship experiences, possibly spanning more than one school/college holiday period/NHS department
• Support NHS organisations to find new ways to provide the internship placements, and support the development of role descriptions, interviews of the students as part of the overall experience etc
• Support the ongoing delivery of two key HEE strategies - Talent for Care and Widening Participation, and the local career agendas of the NHS Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (SPTs) across the North of England.
