Description

Reading Borough Council has secured DfT funding to develop and demonstrate Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) services in Reading. A core element of Reading's involvement is demonstrating the potential for C-ITS services to integrate to Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC).

Data management is at the core of this proposal, intelligently using all of Reading's datasets to build an accurate journey time monitoring and prediction platform which will be able to inform UTMC strategies. In terms of C-ITS inputs, this project will use Bluetooth as an indication of the types of inputs and we will develop more advanced variable message sign (VMS) strategies to reflect the more intelligent types of information services which will ultimately be able to be delivered directly to the vehicle.

This tender is for the development of the Journey Time Engine which will take and fuse information from a number of data sources, including UTMC, and will present this in a format which can be used by the network management operators to inform UTMC network management strategies including traveler information services. Although not part of this tender the ultimate aim will be to fully integrate the outputs into Reading's UTMC system.

Information from this Journey Time Engine will also provide an output such that Reading Buses can integrate information into their own bus management system.

Reading is also committed to delivering open data and information from this system will be made available as open data on Reading's existing open data platform.
