Description

A component part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is the Science and Technology Facilities Council(STFC) which is one of Europe's largest multidisciplinary research organisations supporting scientists andengineers world-wide. It operates world-class large-scale research facilities at the Rutherford AppletonLaboratory (RAL), Oxfordshire; the Daresbury Laboratory (DL), Cheshire; and the UK ATC, Edinburgh; providesstrategic advice to the government on their development and manages international research projects in supportof a broad cross-section of the UK research community. The internal departments consist of; • ISIS, the world's most powerful pulsed neutron and muon source - used to study the atomic structure ofmaterials. • Space Science and Technology (SSTD) is Europe's largest Space Science department and provides world-leading research and technology development, space test facilities, instrument and mission design. With significant involvement in over 150 space missions in recent years, SSTD is at the forefront of UK Space Research. • SRS-Daresbury (SRS) is a major STFC Facility based in Warrington, Cheshire. It is host to the Synchrotron Radiation Source plus other resources and services of strategic importance. • Technology department provides the expertise to support varied research projects by developing, building andoperating technically complex equipment from microelectronics through to large-scale international structures. Our scientific collaborators are similarly diverse. • Laser department provides laser facilities to UK and European researchers to carry out a broad range ofexperiments into physics, biology and chemistry Suppliers are required by UKRI STFC to provide engineering design and drawing services (ED & D) to RAL, DL and other associated sites. The work will be required to be carried out off site and then delivered to UKRI STFC.
The aims of the procurement exercise are to set up a framework of suppliers that can deliver a range of designand drawing capabilities to UKRI STFC. UKRI STFC engineers and designers provide mechanical and electricalengineering expertise to all internal divisions. This involves working with scientists and other engineers to create new facilities from concept through to commissioning and operation. UKRI STFC currently uses a variety of CAD packages and the task of detailing designs is given to suppliers as and when the need arises. The workmay consist of the following stages; • Discussions and pull all the material and known items together. • Model the surrounding area and known items. • Investigate the options. • Demonstrate the favoured proposal via 3D views/presentations • Detail design. • Produce drawings for manufacture. • Produce project documentation and analysis.
