Description

East Sussex County Council is seeking to commission an oral health promotion service to improve the oral health outcomes of the residents of East Sussex through workforce training, expert advice and targeted oral health promotion intervention from 1st September 2017.

Oral disease (dental decay, gingivitis, oral cancer) is largely preventable. Risk factors associated with poor oral health include: diet (including sugar and fizzy drink consumption), alcohol, smoking, prescribed and illegal drugs consumption, accidents and poor dental hygiene and inadequate exposure to fluoride.

Inequalities exist in oral health with lower income and socially disadvantaged groups experiencing disproportionately higher levels of oral disease compared to the rest of the population.

The successful provider will deliver consistent evidence based oral health training reflecting current best practice to all frontline workers and organisations who have a role in promoting oral health, for example staff working in education, health, early years settings, the Healthy Child Programme 0-19 years, housing, homeless services, residential care, nursing homes, social care, community and voluntary services, as well as carers, community groups and workplaces. East Sussex has adopted the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach to address health inequalities by using the contact that NHS, social care and other frontline staff have with individuals as an opportunity to encourage and deliver key messages to help improve their physical and emotional wellbeing. The service will also provide expert oral health promotion advice to the local health and social care system and targeted support to more vulnerable groups within the population.

Further details of the requirement, together with the quotation documents and instructions, can be accessed by expressing an interest in this opportunity.

The deadline for quotation submission is 12:00 on Friday 14th July
