Description

Blackburn's Rivers Important to Lancashire's Landscape and Natural Capital Economy (BRILLIaNCE) is an ambitious project to deliver physical improvements to the Rivers Darwen and Roddlesworth within Blackburn. We are seeking interest from suitable Civil Engineering Contractors to deliver the creation of a "close to nature" river channel and a rock ramp. Currently a significant length of the River Roddlesworth is culverted under a former mill site in Feniscowles near Blackburn. The close to nature channel will involve constructing a new river channel around the former mill site through the installation of rock, boulders and other natural materials within an existing channel, followed by the diversion of the River Roddlesworth into the new channel. A weir above the culvert will have a rock ramp installed on it to facilitate fish passage. The result will be to create high value river habitat and provide habitat connectivity to the river below and above the culvert. The length of new river channel is approximately 400m.
The project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund through European Structural Infrastructure Funding that seeks to increase the surface area of habitat supported to attain a better conservation status.
The target construction start date is late May/early June 2017, with completion in December 2017.
The closing date for receipt of tender return is Thursday the 27th of April at 16:00.
The form of contract will be the NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contract option A.
