Description
A full survey of fire doors has been completed to reassure the Trust that capacity to prevent the spread of fire within our premises is compliant with the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the guidance in Health Technical Memorandum 05-02 and the CLG Guide to Fire Safety Risk assessments in Healthcare premises. The surveys covered all three Western Sussex sites and indicated numerous deficiencies in fire doors. The Trust is now looking to ensure that remedial works are undertaken initially at Southlands Hospital in Shoreham West Sussex and St Richards Hospital in Chichester, to ensure that suitable fire doors are in place to protect the most vulnerable of our patients.
The Trust seeks to act on, using the safest and most cost effective methods, the recommendations and remedial actions from the fire door survey to achieve fire compliance within the Trust hospitals.
For the purpose of this tender exercise the Trust will be looking to complete ALL priority 1 and 2 areas of non-compliance at Southlands and St. Richards Hospitals only, which are detailed in the attached spreadsheet.
The Trust estimates that a further four years of work will be required to complete all of the breaches in its infrastructure. This requirement will form the basis of separate tender exercise(s).
Contractors are to be preferably third party accredited in fire door remedial works as it is anticipated that Trust fire doors will be upgraded in accordance with industry best practice. Such practice will be as detailed by the Timber Research and Development Association guidance, the British Woodworking Federation of any other third party accreditation body. It is recognised that, due to the age of doors and the unknown manufacturer, many doors will not be able to be "certificated" under a third party scheme. However, it is understood that undertaking remedial works that suit best practice will ensure an adequate level of protection.
