Description

Painting work. Painting work of buildings. Painting and protective-coating work of structures. Painting work of structures. Concrete. Woodwork. Painting and glazing work. Ailsa Craig Lighthouse is located on Ailsa Craig, an island in the Firth of Clyde, just offshore from Girvan, South Ayrshire at Latitude 55° 15.126'N, Longitude 005° 06.523'W. The lighthouse was established in 1886 to mark the west side of the main entrance into the Clyde. Designed by David Alan Stevenson and constructed by Hill and Son of Leith, the painted white stone tower stands 11 metres high at an elevation of 18 metres above sea level. The existing optic has a range of 17 nautical miles with a flashing white character (1) every 4 seconds.

The Lighthouse station consists of a tower, engine room, control room, battery room, store room and domestic accommodation. The former lightkeeper's houses and all other buildings are privately owned.

The main items of project work are as listed below:-

1.Carry out a full Asbestos Refurbishment / Demolition Survey on all NLB operational buildings prior to the commencement of any work. The survey, sample collection and sample analysis must be carried by a UKAS accredited contractor in accordance with ISO 17020, ISO 17025 and Health and Safety Executive Guidance Notes; HSG 248, Asbestos: The analysts' guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures" and HSG264, Asbestos: The survey guide.

2.The Principal Contractor is expected to test the existing 'HCL' fall arrest system and re-certify it if necessary before use. The Principal Contractor is to provide the Project Leader with all relevant test certification for record and audit purposes.

3.Deliver all plant, tools, materials, etc to NLB Oban packaged for helicopter under-slinging.

4.Land plant, tools, materials, etc on site and establish welfare facilities.

5.Carry out minor civil works and full redecoration of the lighthouse station.
