Pier Cladding Update- Performance Criteria
Options
Precast concrete 160 mm to 200mm thick discussed.
Steel sections bracketed to pile.
GRP sections fixed to outside of pile with compressible liner/ infill.
Formwork with pile wrapping and RC wrapping mesh/ rebar.
Design Criteria for finisher pier cladding.
Pier cladding noted on drawings 3200mm precast cladding 200 mm thick.
Maximum outside diameter = 3200mm.
Minimum inside diameter = 2800mm.
Arrangement allows for overall out of position of installed pile of 100mm maximum. Assuming 2600mm Dia pile cap.
Corbel support from pile designed to support self-weight of pier cladding.
Cladding to be isolated from pier architectural non-participating with respect to capacity of pile.
Differential movement to be allowed of minimum 10mm if fully infilled or grouted.
Potential to leave unfilled and sealed from water ingress at top.
Options for applying Cladding to uneven concrete pile.
Potential to use Steel shell.
Potential to use GRP cladding.
Height of Cladded Pile approximately 5m
Max SW cladding = 225 high density (25kN/m3 ) thick casing .
Shell with compressible layer/ foam infill to ensure non-structural.
Allowance has been made for grout infill if necessary but compressible layer required to isolate cladding from load effects.
