Description

The University of Salford is seeking a provider for the student care line services.

A) Main Requirements

1. The provider is covered by appropriate insurance for the type of work being undertaken and has arrangements in place to continue this coverage, for the relevant period when legal action may be undertaken, if they should cease trading or offering this type of service - and this is all robust as regards the contracting and sub-contracting organisations.

2. This will be a 24/7/365 service.

3. Providing access to emotional/mental wellbeing support for up to an hour at a time.

4. Staffed by qualified counsellors who are either already BACP accredited or close to achieving their accreditation. All counsellors who staff the line must have a minimum of 300 hours supervised counselling practice.

5. The counsellors will be experienced and trained in handling trauma.

6. Service has clearly stated risk-management procedures which are satisfactory to the University.

7. In the event that a student discloses information which indicates that one of the following risks is present:

• The caller presents a risk to others • The caller discloses abuse concerning a child or vulnerable adult • The caller presents a risk to their own life and a safety plan cannot be agreed

Then as well as managing the risk appropriately, the service provider will also send an email to the University of Salford Counselling & Wellbeing team (wellbeing@salford.ac.uk) to advise them of the risk that was presented. This will be seen by the Counselling & Wellbeing on the next working day and will be to provide additional follow up support to the student or other staff students impacted, and is not part of immediate risk management or emergency response to such incidents. 8. In order to enable Point 7, the service will collect sufficient information about the student (e.g. name and roll number) to enable this. NB: Unless students disclose one of the stated risks, then the fact they have called the service will remain anonymous.....
