Description
The area surrounding Chapel Street East is undergoing significant change in terms of
use, function and profile. This transformation and growth of the city centre in Salford is
being driven by a number of major investment and development programmes, primarily
comprising three inter-dependent, but distinct areas, Chapel Wharf, the New Bailey
commercial quarter and Greengate.
Chapel Street East is a key corridor that connects these three areas and is an integral
element of the regeneration plan that supports the westward expansion of the city
centre Central Business District over the River Irwell and into Salford for the first time.
It is therefore vitally important to the successful regeneration of the area that Chapel
Street East as a place undergoes a qualitative "step up" to make it a proper city centre
environment fit for people living, working and enjoying leisure activities in the area.
The project involves the realignment of kerb lines to incorporate a new terraced cycle
arrangement, new green and blue infrastructure, footways rebuilt (including the
provision of continuous footways), public realm improvements and work on private
land.
The carriageway will be resurfaced, new traffic regulation orders with associated road
markings and traffic signs and upgrades to street lighting including architectural and
feature lighting to the Bury Street Network Rail Structure.
We are looking to reimagine the space along the route and enhance pedestrian links by
improving the uncontrolled and controlled crossing points.
