Description
Whitfield Tabernacle is the only Grade 1 listed building in South Gloucestershire. Its buildings have been unused for 27 years and are in very poor condition and are a high priority on the 'At Risk' register. Historic England has stated that the Whitfield Tabernacle is the most important listed building in the worst condition in the whole of the South West Region.
The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) recently announced a £10M funding pot for a series of 'Love our High Streets' projects. South Gloucestershire Council submitted an online business case to WECA proposing investment to support a series of complementary projects on Kingswood High Street and one of these projects is the stabilisation and restoration of the Grade 1 listed Whitfield Tabernacle, such that it can return to community use.
