The main works to which this investigation relates is the installation of a number of research boreholes and associated civil engineering works. This investigation is intended to address any ground related risks which may affect the main works operations.
This investigation shall be the main investigation. The purpose of the investigation is to:
• Determine the nature and extent of ground and groundwater conditions at the sites to facilitate the safe design of temporary and permanent works; and
• In addition to the above, determine the nature and extent of ground and groundwater contamination at Site E.
The investigation for the design of temporary and permanent works shall include for the characterisation of the ground for foundation design purposes and the safe design of working platforms and other works associated with preparing the site to allow for the UKGEOS works.
Geological information obtained during this investigation will be used during the design of the more complex, observatory boreholes where detailed knowledge of the superficial deposits will be important in terms of the risks during construction. It is therefore important that all depths of strata changes, descriptions, observations of stability, etc, are as accurate as possible.
With regards to contamination, the requirement is to identify the presence or otherwise of contamination to allow any necessary mitigation measures during drilling of the UK GEOS holes to be defined.
Please ensure you review all attached information to ensure a full understanding of this requirement. All attachments can be found with the Document Uploads tab within the Delta eSourcing Portal.
