Description

The NATO Codification System (NCS) is an internationally recognised system designed for the uniform naming, description, and classification of military equipment and components. This process assigns each Item of Supply with a unique NATO Stock Number (NSN) which is then stored electronically within the UK Codification Support Information System (CSIS) database. These records are then integrated into the NATO Master Catalogue of References for Logistics (NMCRL) which stores all NSNs. The NCS system is used by 64 nations and allows for a standardised supply language which significantly enhances logistics interoperability among the member nations.

The United Kingdom National Codification Bureau (UKNCB) is the Sole Authority for Codification matters in the UK and is responsible for implementation and management of the UK's participation in the overall NATO codification system. It is also responsible for oversight and management of the Codification contract, ensuring that the capability is in place to meet all Codification needs for the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

The Codification Contractor is crucial in supporting and maintaining the UK MOD's operational efficiency through streamlined and accurate NATO Codification efforts. UKNCB aims to sustain and enhance the efficiency and reliability of the MOD's codification needs, ensuring seamless integration and cooperation within the broader NATO framework.

The Provider is to collaborate closely with UKNCB to ensure all Codification activities are in line with established codification policies and procedures. The Provider is to ensure all codification activities are carried out in compliance with the codification contract documents,.

All codification work shall be issued under the Authority of UKNCB through the CSIS E-Tasking system.
