Description
The study of neuroscience in cities has lacked advancement mainly due to technology; we have not had the ability to take equipment outside of the lab to test neuroscience in the "wild" resulting in neuroscientists not being able to conduct studies with people in real life environments. Testing neuroscience in the context of the built environment has, as a result, been limited. Mobile Electroencephalography (EEG) would open the opportunity for the Catapult to understand the effect of cities on neurology as part of one of our urban Mobility and Healthy Cities agendas. EEG measures brain activity from small recording electrodes by means of specially designed electrode caps.
The Catapult wishes to purchase two mobile EEG devices, accessories and supporting services for the purpose of advancing its understanding of the the objectives set out above.
The Catapult requires the mobile EEG devices with the following functionality:
• Must be battery operated (at least 4 hours operation) such that it allows for mobile use.
• The devices are to have 128 EEG channels (24 bipolar channels) and have upgradability to 256 EEG channels.
• The devices are to allow the users the high-density EEG stations to be split into separate (mobile) 64-channel EEG systems.
• The devices should allow studies such as:
o Steady State Visually Evoked Potentials (SSVEP);
o An evoked potential (AEP);
o Mismatch Negativity (MMN);
o P300 (P3) wave; and
o N2(pc).
• The use of the devices shall permit accuracy in adverse environments.
• Devices must be compact and light weight to allow for quick set up to support mobile use.
• System must have high temporal resolution data through high sampling rate of up to 16 kHz which users may select.
• System must be highly configurable (including configurable workflows) to allow for studies to be conducted in a diverse range of parametres.
• Resolution to at least 24 bits.
• USB 2.0 compatible.
• Electrode cables do not interfere with EEG recording and not impacted when impedances are high.
• Signals shielded from environmental noise.
The system to be purchased is to include:
• Two systems as above and amplifiers.
• Breathing sensor.
• Temperature sensor.
• GSR sensor.
• Accelerometer and 2 bipolar electrodes.
• 8 x 128 EEG caps.
• 1 x 256 EEG cap.
• Backpack to allow for cooling and portability of both systems.
• Desktop PC, tablet and recording software.
• All equipment to support use as described above including accessories and supporting equipment.
• Set up, installation and training.
• 12 month warranty and two years support service.
The successful supplier will have experience in the following areas:
• Manufacturer of mobile EEG systems that support the requirements demonstrated in the ITT;
• Provider of support, installation and training of mobile EEG systems;
• Experienced with regards to providing expertise in the support of projects of the type descibred that will be utilising the above systems.
