Description

The University wishes to appoint a Supplier of Patent Attorney Services capable of dealing with intellectual property matters relating to a broad portfolio of research and development activity.
The University aims to grow its research activity and protect arising intellectual property when its exploitation is likely to have commercial value. Maintaining a rational portfolio of registered intellectual property is a priority for the University, meaning that it requires candid, pragmatic advice in relation to initiating applications, strategies for overcoming obstacles and the impact of proposed amendments to applications.
Broad competence, clear and effective communication, timely notification of actions due and responsiveness are especially important to the University in its engagement with providers of IP services.
The University expects that over the course of the intended Agreement it will principally require the following services:
• Advice on patentability, inventorship and freedom to operate
• Preparation and filing of patent applications in the UK and abroad
• Preparation and submission of documents relating to patent prosecution and provision of advice on the same, including strategy formulation and anticipated outcomes
• Preparation and filing of design registrations and trade marks in the UK and abroad
• Administration of renewal of registered intellectual property
• Advice on infringement of registered intellectual property and action relating to the same
• Advice on licensing and assignment of intellectual property
• Periodic review of patent portfolio and costs accrued
• Estimates of costs relating to any specific action proposed relating to the services
• Other services concerning the University's intellectual property such as might be required from time to time.
