Description

It has been recognised that, as an organisation, we need to spend time analysing how we deliver our funding - what and how we fund, how we make difficult decisions and learn from other's experience (both internally and externally) to make the biggest possible difference with the money we have available.
Understanding charity finance is an essential component of grant making skills to inform our judgment and decision making. This comes with a good understanding of the language and terminology; and underlying concepts of charity accounting.
Our teams need the confidence and the ability to review and assess organisation's financial health. Our teams need to understand that those in the charitable sector will have accounts that look different. The legislation, regulatory bodies, accounting standards, reporting thresholds, stakeholders and discharge of duty will be different to other sectors. The various structures, business models, sources of income and reserves policies will also influence the judgment and interpretation of an organisation's performance and financial standing beyond the financial metrics.

We have identified the need to develop some key areas within our funding teams around financial and organisational resilience:
- Understanding what is meant by financial and organisational resilience (particularly in relation to Charities and Social Enterprises).
- Interpret how the financial information relates to an organisation's activities, financial health and future plans.
- How to take financial accounting information and triangulate this with an organisations impact/business plans and observations of what is happening in reality (within the organisation) to enhance judgment around financial resilience.

Please refer to the detailed specification available online at the e-tendering portal.
