Description

The UK has set out in law the target of achieving Net Zero by 2050. Since 1990, UK greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have been falling. In 2017 UK GHG emissions were equivalent to just over 500 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (MtCO2e) , 40% below 1990 levels. To achieve Net Zero by 2050 the UK will need to cut its emission rates by over 300 MtCO2e (2017 levels) to 193 MtCO2e in 2050

To help us achieve these ambitions we are commissioning this project which will collate and analyse evidence to help us understand how best to balance our residual carbon emissions to achieve Net Zero by 2030. It will help us understand:
- Which approaches are best?
- How should we offset/inset?
- Where (geographically) should we work?
- Who should we collaborate with?
