Description

We are looking for an experienced designer to conceive and deliver an exciting strategy to communicate our ethos Living Art and Sharing Stories and exhibition relaunch project for Spring 2023. The designer should have experience and creativity in working with museum objects and dynamic visitor experiences which includes the digital element.

The centrepiece of Living Art and Sharing Stories will be in our East End Gallery. This will be composed of two main elements to be sensitively and dynamically interwoven:

1. The centrepiece, entitled 'Imprisoned Souls', will be a glass box surrounded by objects from the Sainsbury Centre collection. The visitor will enter the glass box, inverting the usual experience of looking at an encased object. Instead, the visitor will be contained and gazed at by the objects, which are on the outside. The designer will work with our curatorial team to select and conceive the display of the objects and this experience.
2. The second element will be an immersive interactive digital experience allowing visitors to discover content to enrich knowledge about the objects in the Sainsbury Centre collection. This section will include an area where visitors of different ages can create content.

We are looking for a design that brings these elements together into a single dramatic and emotive experience.

Furthermore, Living Art and Sharing Stories will extend into the Living Area at the Sainsbury Centre. In this permanent collection display, works from different periods and cultures are juxtaposed in an open plan space so the visitor can take their own journey. Living Art and Sharing Stories may include interventions in the Living Area to demonstrate the lifeforce within the objects in our collection or a dramatic installation.
