Description

Newark & Sherwood District Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Principal Contractor to provide general fit out works at the Buttermarket Shopping Centre in Newark.

The scheme proposes changes to the layouts of units 4,8,9,10 & 11 in order to be converted into a Bar & Restaurant. The tenderer is to be aware that conversion of the units is not part of this scheme. The proposals include landlord works that will enable the fit out to take place. The scheme also proposes changes to the front elevation of the building. The proposals will aim to preserve and enhance the historic fabric, and in many cases revert back to its original design by the removal of modern partitions. The proposed alterations will be of the highest quality and as far as possible designed in such a way that can be removed in the future without damaging the historic fabric.

The site is located on the ground and first floor of the Newark Buttermarket Shopping Centre, 23 Middle Gate, Newark NG24 1AL . Vehicular access to the site is restricted with the nearest car park located on Lombard Street. Parking dispensation will be given for a maximum of two vehicles; this will allow closer parking to the centre.

The Buttermarket is attached to the Grade I listed Town Hall which has exceptional local significance, special architectural and historic interest. The relationship of adjacent buildings to the Buttermarket and especially to the Town Hall is also significant.
