Description

The Dame Carol Black Review states that the societal cost of drugs in England is approximately £19.3bn. This harm is fuelling an increase in violence and exploitation of vulnerable people, including children, due to the County Lines models of drug movement. For example, 45% of acquisitive crime is linked to drugs, 44% of homicides in 2017/18 were known to be drug-related and in 21% of violent incidents in 2017/18 the offender was thought to be under the influence of drugs. The review has given rise to several additional funding streams being made available to Local Authorities - including the Rough Sleeper Drug and Alcohol Treatment Grant. There is a strong evidence base which demonstrates the links between harm caused by drug and alcohol use and individuals with multiple complex needs within a community. East Sussex has been selected as one of the Rough Sleeping Drug and Alcohol Treatment Grant (RSDATG) Phase 3 areas. The RSDATG is funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC, formerly the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government) and is managed by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID, formerly Public Health England). This funding will run to March 2024. East Sussex has been allocated a total of £592,775. The funding is allocated for use in Hastings.
