Description

The project aims to critically assess the evidence base on bioenergy, by way of identifying the costs and benefits of alternate ways of generating bioenergy for heat, focusing on the key biogas pathways of biomethane and bio-hydrogen. The resulting report will increase our understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence and provide a platform to identify a robust set of assumptions highlighting key uncertainties and gaps. The contractor will create a bioenergy supply chain model which will provide credible estimates of costs, greenhouse gas emissions and energy generated from a range of bioenergy routes to 2050, which will feed directly into the broader modelling tool being built to assess heat decarbonisation options more widely, and ultimately leading to a better understanding of the costs and benefits of bioenergy pathways compared to other options.

A summary of evidence sources and key findings will be published to increase the transparency of the evidence to external stakeholders and increase opportunities for engagement
