Description

Derby City Council has provided a Book of Remembrance as a form of memorialisation at the Markeaton Crematorium since 1956. It is a very popular form of memorialisation as it allows the Council's Bereavement Services Department the opportunity to offer a permanent memorial to family and friends following the passing away of a loved one.

Historically the Council has ordered an entry from a calligraphy company to be included in the Book of Remembrance, which can be viewed annually at the Crematorium on the anniversary of the death.

The service has been extended to include Memorial Cards, miniature Books of Remembrance for families to keep and engraved leather plaques, which can be ordered for display at the Crematorium.

The Books of Remembrance are displayed in bespoke wooden cabinets contained in a dedicated Book Room at the Crematorium. It is also possible to view a digitised version of the memorial entry via a touch-screen display unit which is also housed in a bespoke wooden unit within the Book Room.

Further, the Council has recently started to display the Book of Remembrance entries on a dedicated website enabling families to view the entry via the Internet.

The Council is inviting tenders for the provision of a Book of Remembrance Service to establish a contract with an experienced company who can supply a high quality and cost effective process, enabling the Council's Bereavement Service's Department to continue to offer all of the above services to family and friends of the recently deceased.

CONTRACT DURATION
The initial contract period is three years; the contract is estimated to commence 1st August 2021 and expire 31st July 2023.

CONTRACT EXTENSION
There will be an option to extend the contract for two years in annual increments, subject to satisfactory performance and business needs. Maximum contract period is therefore five years.

BUDGET
There is a maximum budget of £100,000 for the full 5 years.
