Description

Sgeir Na Cailleach beacon is located on a rock outcrop in the sound for Sleat, Isle of Skye / Kyle of Lochalsh, position 57º 15.6'N, 5º 38.8'W, has a nominal light range of 4 nautical miles and is approximately 3m high and constructed of reinforced concrete, the working platform at the top of the beacon is accessed by a metal ladder. Potential suppliers must familiarise themselves with the site location and the existing transport network for materials and plant delivery. It is an essential requirement for the contractor to establish two means of communication i.e. telephone, mobile, sat-phone or VHF radio for general communications to and from site for the duration of the works. The works shall consist of a clean down and repaint of the structure, repair concrete plinth, dismantle the old ladder and install new stainless steel ladder. Install Eye bolts and load test at two lighthouse locations, Sgeir Na Cailleach Beacon and Ornsay Beacon. Re-configure of a handrail at a third lighthouse location, Ornsay Lighthouse. All works are located within the Sound of Sleat, Isle of Skye. Sgeir Na Cailleach Beacon is located within the Sound of Sleat and is a ten minute boat journey to the light from Kyleakin, Isle of Skye or Kyle of Lochalsh. Ornsay Lighthouse and Ornsay Beacon are a thirty minute journey if setting off by boat from the same location. Works shall commence 08-January-2024 with completion required by 31-March-2024. The contractor must provide boat transport for their own personnel for the duration of the works. Any boat used must be certified compliant with the MCA Code of Practice for the Safety of Small Boats and Pilot Boats, preferred category four as a minimum. Copies of certifications shall be sought prior to work commencement. Details of the vessel to be used for personnel and materials transfer must be included within the tender submission for evaluation by NLB Marine Operations. A Programme of works must be included within the tender submission, incorporating the proposed phasing of the works and key dates. Tenderers are required to provide details of their (or their subcontractors) technical and professional ability to carry out a full Asbestos Refurbishment / Demolition Survey prior to the commencement of any work. It is a mandatory requirement for the submission of a tender to attend a site visit, which has been arranged for Wednesday 08-November-2023.
