Description
2019/20 - Children's Targeted Short Break Grants Available
A second allocation process and opportunity to bid for 2019/20 grant funding is now open for all providers that currently deliver, or have an interest in delivering, targeted short breaks to disabled children and young people from Leeds. Following the first exercise in November 2018, a small pot of money remains available for the delivery of school holiday provision. The stated aim of the 19/20 grants round was to increase the amount of weekend and school holiday provision. Whilst the first round delivered an increase in weekend provision, it has not resulted in an increase in school holiday provision hence this second opportunity.
Grants will be awarded to organisations based on the effectiveness and sustainability of their provision however the application must be for school holidays only. ALL applications will be considered, including providers who applied in the initial exercise in November 18. The total grant pot available is £23,720.00
If you would like to apply for a grant, please ensure you are registered on YORtender via https://www.yortender.co.uk (follow the link for instructions on how to do so) and search for the following scheme:-
REF: DN390452

Please note that a separate "SCAF" and "Provider Request Form" needs to be submitted for each activity. There is an example monitoring form for information only. Should you be successful, this form will need to be completed following the end of each quarter.
The deadline for applications is 12pm, Friday 15th February 2019.

What is a Short Break?
A short break gives disabled children and young people enjoyable experiences away from their primary carers and also gives parents and carers a valuable break from caring responsibilities. Short breaks can include activities which last: a morning; an afternoon; an evening; a day; overnight; a weekend; or longer. They can take place in: the child's own home; the home of a carer; a residential or community setting. Short breaks form part of packages of support that should be personalised for the children or young person and their family based upon holistic assessment and agreed outcomes.
Paragraph 6(1) (c) of the Children's Act 1989 requires Local Authorities to provider services designed to assist carers of disabled children by giving them breaks from caring. This Duty came into force on 1st April 2011 and requires each Local Authority to:-
• Offer short breaks as a preventative early intervention strategy;
• Offer a range of short breaks services to parents/carers; and
• Publish a statement of those services to parents/carers and to regularly review the statement
