Description

The Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse was built in 1788 and re-built between 1821 and 1830. The lighthouse (located approximately 16miles south west of Campbelltown) is situated on the edge of an 80m high cliff and is accessed via a steep and twisty single track macadammed road. The private road is approximately 1 mile long and extends from a lockable timber gate, adjacent to a public carpark/turning area at the end of the of the unclassified local authority road. From the access gate at the public carpark, the road drops approximately 280m down to the lighthouse, via a number of tight hairpin bends.

Summary of Works:
- Remote site, Private Road, 1.2miles, 2.6m wide, few passing places extreme gradients, hairpin bends
- Existing private road surfacing is aged and breaking up at several points with poor condition drainage
- Known difficulties with large vehicles travelling on single track - access requires to be monitored
- Existing single track road is currently passable with care however major upgrade works are required.
- Proposed to make bulk deliveries using ship and helicopter.
- Temporary Power Supply for duration of the works, Site Security in accordance with CDM Regs. 2015
- Site clearance and works including demolition, excavation, drainage, earthworks, roadworks, brickwork,
- Stonework, metalwork, plumbing including removal of 3,500 litre cold water storage tank,
- Supply of and laying polymer concrete drainage channel, full road construction including overlay,
- Supply and installation of replacement stainless steel water tank and all fixings and fittings
- Supply and installation of 2no. 5,000 litre cold water storage tanks

Bidders are requested to provide details of having performed up to three contracts of same or similar nature. Alternatively, should it be intended to sub-contract a proportion of the contract bidders will be
required to demonstrate evidence of having a prior relationship with the subcontractor and having previously maintained a healthy supply chain with their chosen subcontractor.

It is important that Tenderers or their representative(s) attend the site visit, any Tenderers submitting a tender that have not attended the site visit, will not be considered.
