Description

The British Council will commission a network of consultants to work alongside our core Gender and Inclusion team. These consultants, who will be described as the "Associate Advisors", will provide specialist input into our work, to help deliver the British Council's objectives. The Associate Advisors will take part in meetings with British Council staff when required. They will be recruited on a 'call/draw-down' basis, providing consultancy days as agreed for the British Council, which can be accessed at any point in the year as the need arises. The Associate Advisors will be expected to engage in knowledge-sharing activities and support colleagues in the wider British Council. This will be particularly important in 2021/22 as we start to gather and build internal expertise and capacity around gender equality with a view to embedding this more systematically into everything we do.

To meet the needs of the British Council, over the next three years we are seeking up to 10 Associate Advisors, who together will provide comprehensive expertise on the sector and can undertake a range of activities. These will include:
- Development of strategy, tools and approaches to support global, regional and country programme development.
- Gender strategies and mainstreaming through review and analysis of existing and new programmes from a gender perspective.
- Programme design and development of new programmes at a global, regional and country level.
- Providing knowledge and insight in relation to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
- Gathering market intelligence for potential contract opportunities including intelligence related to potential clients, partners and consultants.
- Supporting activities to raise the profile of the British Council and position it as a thought leader in gender equality and women's and girls' empowerment.
- Supporting the development of gender sensitive monitoring and evaluation strategies and tools for specific projects and programmes.
- Leading formal evaluations and or reviews/audits of projects and programmes focused on gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.
- Carrying out reviews of evidence and learning across programmes on relevant themes.
- Supporting the capacity building of internal staff as well as partners and participants on gender and empowerment of women and girls.
