Description

Kent County Council requires a Contractor to the deliver Works required to widen a section of the existing carriageway to incorporate a southbound bus lane.
The Bath Street Bus Lane Contraflow scheme is part of the overall Fastrack programme, which comprises individual projects across the Fastrack Network between Dartford Ebbsfleet and Gravesend. Fastrack is an award winning high-quality rapid public transport service providing fast, reliable, efficient transport across Kent Thameside. The first phase of Fastrack, developed in the early 2000s has become the transport mode of choice for local journeys from new and existing developments in the area.
Fastrack operates via congestion-free routes across a 40km network extending across Ebbsfleet Garden City and the wider Kent Thameside area. It is a combination of dedicated Fastrack busways, bus priority lanes and on-street running with priority at all signalled junctions.
Currently two Fastrack routes are already operating well (currently the service has between 2-2.5m passengers) known as Route A and Route B. Fastrack will see in future years as well as the introduction of an electric fleet an extension to Route A between Ebbsfleet International Station, through Eastern Quarry to Bluewater. Fastrack Route A will then extend from Ebbsfleet International through Northfleet Embankment, on to Gravesend Bus Hub, via the Bath Street Bus Lane Contraflow.
The Bath Street scheme includes widening a section of the existing carriageway to incorporate a southbound bus lane. The proposed bus lane will connect to West Street to the North at the West Street/Bath Street/Church Street Roundabout and the new Gravesend Bus Hub on Garrick Street to the South via New Road. This new route will facilitate the extension of the Fastrack Route A service to Gravesend.
