Description

Leicester City Council invites Tenders for the provision of a screen structure to the rear of the Corn Exchange
The proposed Contract will be for eight months. We anticipate awarding to a single Supplier.
The contract will deliver a new solution to mask the recently exposed elevation of the Corn Exchange which is in a state of disrepair, with the intention to enhance the appreciation of the Grade II* Listed building.
The Corn Exchange is located at 1 Market Place, LE1 5HG.
The proposed screen to the west facade of the Corn Exchange is to be constructed over the in-filled section of the old Indoor Market Centre basement.
The main structure of the extension will 'stand-off' the Corn Exchange by 5.5m creating a back-of-house area that serves several functions:
• to allow servicing and means of escape for the Corn Exchange;
• providing storage space at ground floor to service the new square;
• creating a mezzanine plant deck that will allow the relocation and rationalisation of the existing plant equipment;
• allow the future option for a lift and means-of-escape to be provided for the first floor;
• house the equipment associated with projection;
• contain bin stores for Corn Exchange operations.
