Description
The ISIS neutron and muon source at UK Research and Innovation's (UKRI's) Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is a world class research organisation at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) based in Harwell campus, Oxfordshire, UK. The fleet of instruments use neutron and muons from synchrotron to study the properties of materials at atomic scale. The science spans a wide range of disciplines, from magnetism to cultural heritage, engineering to food science, and chemistry to environmental science.
The ISIS facility houses two biology laboratories, providing specialist equipment and expertise for the preparation, characterisation and handling of biological and biochemical samples. These may include nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and bacterial cell cultures. UKRI assist visiting scientists in preparing, checking, and optimising samples for ISIS instrument beam time.
As part of preparation and characterisation of proteins, UKRI are seeking to buy a Circular Dichroism spectrophotometer to evaluate the secondary structure, folding and binding properties of proteins.
