Description
Currently students and staff are able to call for assistance (emergency first aid and general help with security matters) from Security on campus. Upon alerting Security to an incident, they have to ask numerous questions to ascertain the incident location, staff/student details and nature of the support required. This system puts the Students first and allows students to feel safer around Campuses
In addition, the University has centralised lone worker management, but Security are not always aware of staff working out-of-hours and where to appropriately apply resource to provide coverage of these personnel/students.
International students who have different cultural and language barriers to overcome to engage with Security effectively to get an optimal response.
International Travel
The University has an increasing number of staff and students going overseas on behalf of the University on international and UK-based travel supporting activities such as research, field trips, student recruitment and on collaborative working opportunities. Currently the University has limited capability to understand the real-time whereabouts of its personnel at any point in time. If an incident occurred, such as a global terrorism incident we are lacking the tools to visualise real time our personnel, manage communications and response effectively.
Emergency Management
Currently the University has limited ability to respond to a major incident with the appropriate tools and real-time communication provisions. This inhibits the ability to instantly communicate out to groups or all students/staff, updates and instructions on what the University would like them to do in the event of an emergency situation such as stabbing incidents, fire, flood, weather, suspect package or vehicle, active shooter etc.
