Description

Project Description / Background
Luton & Dunstable University Hospital

Refurbishment of the existing Audio Test Booth Room 50/00/033 including the reduction of the ramped access for wheelchair accessibility
Location - Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, Audiology Department, Ground Floor, Block 50

The scope of works within the existing building is primarily the provision of a new Paediatric Audio Booth Facility combining rooms 50/00/021 Audio Testing and 50/00/020 Consulting Room and the refurbishment of the existing Audio Test Booth Room 50/00/033 including the reduction of the ramped access for wheelchair accessibility.
The existing audiology booth was supplied over 30 years ago and is now in need of refurbishment to modernise the facility without compromising any of the current acoustic performance. The main objective was to create a more inviting facility, whilst adding an air conditioning system to provide sufficient heating, cooling and ventilation to the room. This will also entail replacing the internal door to the booth to reduce the amount of threshold. This would make it easier for wheelchair users to exit the booth and also reduce the height of the ramp externally too. Supply and fit a new acoustic door with a much smaller threshold (3mm). The current door would need to be removed which involves dismantling a portion of the booth, reinstalling the door and then reassembling everything. The design and manufacture of the new door to allow the vision panel lines up with the existing one on the outside of the booth.
New Paediatric Booth Facility combining rooms 50/00/021 and Audio Testing and 50/00/020 Consulting Room
Summary of Requirements: The scope of work is to design, supply, deliver and install 1no. audiology test space designed to meet the standard as set out in ISO-8253-1 (Note: the applicable HTM specification refers to ISO-8253-1). To provide a fully coordinated solution providing all necessary mechanical and electrical services. A clarification on the performance levels achieved by the contractor is to be issued following commissioning. To meet the above criteria, it is likely the room is to be constructed using a room in room configuration.
