Description

Following recent review and update of the Raised Bog inventory for England, it has become apparent that Northumberland supports a large number of raised bogs sites which have received little or no previous attention or recognition. Not only are there many sites, they are also relatively undamaged relative to similar sites elsewhere in the country. In addition to raised bogs, some sites also support minerotrophic wetlands including calcareous fens, acidic fens and Molinia meadow vegetation, significantly increasing their national importance. We are looking for survey of 20 individual sites within a cluster of bogs in mid-Northumberland. Fieldwork should be started as soon as possible, and final reports should be submitted by 15 March 2024.
