Description

Final effluent continuous monitoring surrogate parameters. This project will be completed via an evidence gathering desk top exercise focused on, but not limited to, a review of relevant literature, academic papers, technical documents, discussions with those undertaking final effluent continuous monitoring using surrogates, research and development, video/webinar presentations and other sources of information associated with using surrogates in final effluent continuous monitoring. Where possible this exercise should focus on gathering information and data from Water Companies in England. The information gathered will be presented and summarised in a written technical report which focuses on the areas of interest as set out above. This research project will be completed over a 3 month period.

Question:
The proposal focuses on turbidity as a surrogate for BOD and suspended solids. Are closely related parameters to also be considered as surrogates? For example, ion selective probes using ammonium / phosphate to estimate ammonia / phosphorus?
Answer:
The focus was on using a totally different parameter and deriving results for another, such as turbidity for suspended solids. If you think there would be any benefit on discussing using different forms of calculations for parameters and how that will benefit on the requirements needed for final effluent continuous monitors, then please do. Our thought is that this will be taken into account in the final effluent continuous monitoring technology project.
Question:
The proposal asks for using water company data on surrogates. If such information is provided may it be documented only in anonymous, summarised form?
Answer:
Yes, continuous data will need to be sourced from the Water Companies. This data can be documented and summarised as anonymous if needed.
