Description

Haringey Council already provide a number of opportunities for people to get involved with the hands on management of the borough's parks and open spaces, including those through the Friends of Parks network and providing gardening and conservation activities.

Volunteering opportunities contribute towards the Council's overall vision of working with communities to make Haringey an even better place to live. With volunteer help a 'cleaner and greener Haringey' is achieved, whilst making a positive contribution to the biodiversity of green spaces.

To increase sense of place and community ownership of Somerford Grove Open Space we are looking to undertake a short programme of volunteer opportunities, which allow existing volunteers, local schools and members of the community to be involved in conservation activities and learn about the importance of biodiversity.

Somerford grove is currently a space of amenity grass with a few mature trees, but does not currently have any biodiversity features. Under the supervision of a third party organisation, the project will provide guidance and support to the local community to construct new beds and plant wild flower meadows and bulbs within the newly created biodiversity areas.

Working alongside the local school we hope that this new installation will enhance the schools opportunity to engage in forest school type outdoor activities and increase students knowledge on the biodiversity and species they may see within the newly planted wildflower beds.

These sessions will not only improve the physical infrastructure of the borough's parks and open spaces but will enable volunteers to learn new skills whilst keeping physically active. This opportunity has been distributed on adamprocure.co.uk
