Description
Medway Council wishes to select and appoint a suitable Design Consultant for The Detailed Design work for the A289 contract and invites Suppliers to submit a tender to meet the Council's requirements. The Contract is anticipated to commence upon 12th October 2016 and will continue for a period of up to 2 years, unless terminated in accordance with the Conditions of Contract. In January 2015, Medway Council (MC) submitted a Business Case to South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) for funds to enable delivery of the A289 Four Elms Roundabout to Medway Tunnel scheme. The Business Case was approved by the SELEP and funding is available to implement physical improvements between 2017/18 and 2018/19. The proposed A289 improvement connects the at-grade roundabouts of: Four Elms - (A289 Hasted Road/A228 Four Elms Hill); Sans Pareil - (A289 Wulfere Way/A228 Frindsbury Hill); and Anthonys Way - (A289 Berwick Way/A289 Vanguard Way tunnel). The scheme is intended to improve the capacity at the three roundabouts and improve journey time for vehicles and buses making strategic movements through and along parts of the northern Medway crossing route. The proposals are intended to overcome existing congestion and delay where peak flows exceed capacity at the Sans Pareil and Anthonys Way junctions. The improvements will also provide the additional capacity for traffic growth arising from planned economic and community development on the Hoo Peninsula, Kingsnorth and Grain.
