Description

The number of statutory homeless households in all forms of temporary accommodation, where we owe a full housing duty has increased from just over 300 at the beginning of the year (2017/18) to over 460 (as at July 2018). This is an unprecedented increase in numbers and with capacity remaining the same in Strategic Housing, the projected overspend is in the region of £1m and therefore the opportunity to increase resources to manage this demand is minimal.

With a new Act implemented on 3rd April 2018 and government attention on rough sleeping in the borough, it is imperative that Strategic Housing review their approach to managing the escalating problem before homelessness is experienced at London levels.

This review is timely. The Council is about to reintroduce a Star Chamber approach to budgeting and Strategic Housing need to increase resources in particular areas to ensure first in class services are delivered to its residents.

We therefore seek appropriately experienced and skilled consultants to undertake this review.
