Description

Royal Holloway & Bedford New College is currently tendering for the Provision of a Library Overnight Security Service.
The Library is spread across all 4 floors within a new library building being built ready to open in September 2017. The Library features a variety of study spaces, including group rooms, group and silent study areas as well as over 12,000 linear metres of books, journals and other material.
The Library serves the whole community of c.9,500 students as well as academic staff and researchers across all subject areas on campus
The provision of the service is for overnight staffing from 20.45 to 09.15 hrs daily, 7 days per week for approximately 356 days per year (currently excludes the Christmas/New Year period).

The requirement is for a customer focused security agency to:
• Provide security of the Library areas, equipment and library stock;
• Manage student behaviour in accordance with the zoning of different study areas;
• Sort returned library books from the collection bins in the automated sortation room onto trolleys and put these out for the students;
• Provide regular patrols of the library study areas, circulation routes and toilets;
• Be able to answer basic enquiries with regard to library services, and to signpost library users to where they can find information for themselves, log enquiries or find further contact information;
• Ensure closed areas of the library, art and archives services are kept secure;
• Ensure library equipment is functioning, to top up paper and toner levels in photocopiers/printers;
• Ensure that the environment is kept tidy and presentable;
• Have an understanding of Library and College regulations and to enforce these where necessary;
• Patrol other areas at certain times of the year when requested by Campus Security, when this does not affect the requirements of the Library.
