Description

PLAYGROUND UPGRADE: SILVER WITCH GREEN AND LUCY LANE SOUTH
SPC is seeking a contractor who can produce two modern playgrounds fit for purpose, to engage local children, be inclusive and accessible, be safe to use and ensure that children's physical, emotional and educational needs are catered for, whilst ensuring public funds have been spent wisely.

Lucy Lane South is a small playground in the middle of a residential development, the older of the two playgrounds, with out-dated equipment, but gets less play traffic with younger children.

Silver Witch Green is newer but has heavy play traffic. It is next to an outdoor adult gym and this should be taken into consideration when planning. There is more space available, and a separate section for younger children and another area for older children, thinking that teenagers and above would be attracted by the adult gym, taking the cohesive design of a wider community space. It is surrounded by several schools so is a stop-off on the way home.

Design brief:
The new play areas will need to inform the creation of outdoor play space for years to come, doing justice to children's endless capacity for adventure and imagination, their need for exercise and social interaction and, above all, to their innate sense of fun.
The play space will need to be of high quality and good design to attract children and families and become a valued part of the local environment.

• Freeflow play
• Design based around maximum usage
• Allow children of different ages play together
• Build opportunities to experience risk and challenge
• Sustainable and appropriately maintained
• Accessibility for both able and disabled children
• Place where parents feel secure about letting children play

Specifications:
• Sustainable construction materials
• Wetpour or other rubber flooring
• Ease of maintenance
• Environmental features
• Differentiation between each play area
• Repair and maintenance as part of tender

If you would like to arrange a visit to the the two sites in Stanway, or require any further information about the tender, please contact Deputy Clerk, Catherine Clouston. Payment will be made over two financial years so it is hoped that the work on one playground can be completed this year and the second completed ready for payment at the start of the next financial year. Both sites have playgrounds in situ so the costs will have to include removal of current equipment and preparation of the site for the new installation.
