The objective of the scheme is to increase the capacity of the junction by widening of Hyde Lane/Southam Lane's southbound and westbound approaches. This will also provide future proofing for cycleways planned as part of future work in Phase 3.

The Sites Ordnance Survey national grid reference is as follows:
SO 9552 2587 - Hyde Lane / Southam Lane Junction is found north west of Cheltenham Racecourse where the A435 meets Hyde Lane.

The site is found to the north of Cheltenham town centre. The site comprises of the A435, B4075, Southam Lane, Hyde Lane and Swindon Lane. The wider area is agricultural fields.
