Description

Sellafield Ltd (SL) are undertaking major refurbishment of existing building assets and procuring significant items of plant to ensure that flask maintenance capability can be sustained on its site for the next 30 years. Two primary types of flask, cuboid and cylindrical, are used to provide safe containment for irradiated nuclear fuel and wastes during transportation. The Flask Maintenance Repurposing Project (FMRP) is delivering the maintenance capabilities required once flasks have been decontaminated. Under FMRP, SL is seeking services for the design, supply and installation of four significant items of plant which include: A. Flask paint removal facility B. Flask paint application facility C. Flask machining facility D. Flask automated guided vehicles (AGV)
An industry event will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams on the morning of 8th December 2021

Two primary types of flask, cuboid and cylindrical, are used to provide safe containment for irradiated nuclear fuel and wastes during transportation. The Flask Maintenance Repurposing Project (FMRP) is delivering the maintenance capabilities required once flasks have been decontaminated.
Under FMRP, SL is seeking services for the design, supply and installation of four significant items of plant which include:
• Flask paint removal facility
o accommodating flasks up to 2.6m x 4.3m x 1.6m and 54t
• Flask paint application facility
o accommodating flasks up to 2.6m x 4.3m x 1.6m and 54t
• Flask machining facility
o accommodating flasks up to 6.0m x 2.3m x 1.3m and 70t
• Flask automated guided vehicles (AGV)
o accommodating flasks up to 62t
It is requested that confirmation of interest shall demonstrate capability and provide case studies/detail of similar works, including any innovation offered with regards to design and a high degree of modularity with regards to fabrication for rapid installation, off-site testing, and on-site testing. Information is required on the proposed significant items of plant (including weight, spatial requirements, service requirements).
There are also design and construction work packages associated with enabling and building works, to ensure existing buildings are ready for plant installation and operation. Suppliers outside existing SL frameworks are encouraged to undertake these work packages.
Consideration will be made if Suppliers demonstrate the ability or willingness to partner with other organisations to provide a combined service package, which might include all four items of plant and thus one route of supply for the Project.
An industry event will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams on the morning of 8th December 2021 consisting of a 3-hour overview of SL and the project and SL will then open the event to questions and ideas from Suppliers.
