Description

Devon Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) is a team of women, their families, commissioners and providers of maternity care working together to review and contribute to the development of maternity care in Devon.

The Better Births report was published in 2016 and sets out our vision for the planning, design and safe delivery of maternity services in England. It outlines how women, babies and families will be able to get the type of care they want; and how staff will be supported to deliver such care

The Better Births document states that local maternity services should be designed through a co-production model. It states that Maternity Voices Partnership's (MVP's) are the best way for instituting co-production. MVP's are independent and multi-disciplinary formal committees supported by commissioners and providers of maternity services.

Devon MVP was established in October 2018 and to ensure its independence from NHS Devon CCG it was hosted by an external organisation. Devon MVP was funded from October 2018 to October 2019 by the South West Clinical Network with a budget of £15K. NHS Devon CCCG are responsible for funding Devon MVP moving forward and provided funding for Devon MVP of £20K from October 2019 to October 2020. Devon MVP have requested £22K budget for 2020/2021.

An independent chair was appointed for Devon MVP in October 2018, when this individual moved on as per best practice the next chair was elected in September 2019 by the Devon MVP partnership board.

Recently Devon MVP have increased their capacity to respond to the increased demand for co-production during the COVID period and are planning to ask their membership to agree that the additional capacity becomes a permanent arrangement.

This procurement is being carried out by NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit (SCW) on behalf of the Commissioners.
