Description

The Five Year Forward View for Mental Health set out clear recommendations on suicide prevention and reduction, and made a commitment to reduce suicides by 10% nationally by 2020/21. Alongside this, in 2018, Jeremy Hunt (then secretary of state for health and social care) announced a zero-suicide ambition for mental health inpatients.

The preventing suicides in England strategy, March 2021 estimates that annually 800,000 people across the world die by suicide, with 5,316 people sadly taking their life in England in 2019.

All areas of the country will receive investment in their services, by 2023 to 2024, to further support local suicide prevention plans.
Alongside local plans, all ICS's will be working with the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health to improve quality and safety within their mental health services. This includes implementing evidence from their 20 years of reviews, such as 'Ten Ways to Improve Safety'.
SY ICB have had a focus over the last few years on providing self-harm and suicide awareness training for all staff in primary care and running both a large-scale prevention campaign working with local organisations, and events that are accessible and relevant amongst males such as sport, leisure facilities and service industries. Part of the funding has been used to improve pathways and support for patients (including children and young people and people with personality disorder) presenting with self-harm, including in acute hospitals and mental health services. Finally, the ICS will consider consistent and cost-effective bereavement support pathways across the ICS, including enhancing data sharing agreements across organisations and improving real time surveillance.

In addition to this as part of the Alternative approaches Service an element of funding in Doncaster is dedicated to providing support to people who have recently attempted suicide.

The contract is for three years with two year extension. The value given in this notice is for the full five year term.
