Description

The purpose of this contract is to seek the services of an experienced Environmental consultation who will:
Undertake an assessment of 2 sites with regards to reconnecting collapsed field drains to the wider riparian area, and appraising the installation of in-channel wooden structures to slow the flow of water and reduce erosion.
Separate reports will be produced for each site, but both will assess opportunities based on evidence from in-field observations, data collection and modelling to consider:
Site 1:
Discuss how best to reinstate above ground flow through the removal of two partially collapsed field drains.
Consider how to achieve the best ecological outcome for the newly created stream and riparian area.
Discuss how to restore in-channel structure to create a natural flow regime and in-stream habitat diversity.
Outline the water retention potential that any capital works may provide.
Provide indicative costings related to the implementation of recommendations.
Site 2:
Consider flow dynamics and how this may be influenced by the installation of in-channel woody structures.
Discuss whether the installation of in-channel wood structures in the channel will improve the in-stream and riparian habitat quality.
Discuss whether the over-deepening of the side channel could be reversed by installing woody structures.
Produce recommendations for the size, number, design and location of in-channel structures, should their use be endorsed.
It is expected that any recommendations will be accompanied with designs and maps that would facilitate their implementation by a contractor. These must also be suitable for inclusion in land drainage consent and/or planning permission applications as necessary.
