Description
This opportunity is for the development of a mobile phone app that provides speed advice to drivers approaching traffic signals to help to avoid them having to stop. The app will also collect monitoring data to determine success.
The WM GLOSA project is a 12 month project (which commenced in April 2017) that was funded under the Department for Transport - Co-operative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) competition. The project lead is the West Midlands Combined Authority working with Birmingham City Council, Amey, IDT and SGTI. The Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory concept involves sourcing accurate information about traffic signal timings from the road side controller and providing them to the vehicle, so that the vehicle can calculate the most accurate speed in order to hit a green light.
